my housemate mike went to this landmark education forum over the weekend. this lead to curiousity on my part.. partially because mike is generally a very analytical and critical guy, one who i would not suspect would be susceptible to brainwashing. partially because mike gave me a bit of a soft sell. "Everyone could benefit from this". "Everyone could take something away from this". Hmmmmm.... that didn't sound like mike, something's up. after a little bit of investigation, i've determined that landmark education and the landmark forum should be avoided. i don't think mike has been brainwashed, per se, but i do think that if he doesn't stop going to meetings it will take a while for him to get back to his normal self. this guy has the best description of background and what's going on.. i guess i could sum it up:

LGAT (Large Group Awareness Training) = lots of people crowded in a small space for long hours without sufficient breaks or food. plants and confederates are planted in the crowd to get people to come out of their shell and become vulnerable
if you don't know what it's about then i'm not telling you
this is a business. it makes money. it needs marketing. word of mouth is VERY powerful
outcome is based on your ability to use the course, not the course's ability to teach or transform you. this means, if the course doesn't work, you're the only one to blame. nice caveat, huh?

all in all, it's prolly not all that bad. but after the reading i've done today you won't catch me in any of that shit DEAD! read this if you're interested in brainwashing your friends and family.
