long stringed instruments
if you've never heard a long stringed instrument, you should really listen to one. they are quite beautiful. on normal stringed instruments (guitar, violin, piano) fundamentally the entire string is vibrating at the same speed, and in the same direction. this is not true for long stringed instruments, as some waves travel along the length of the string and some excite the string in the normal direction (like the guitar). this property, and the interaction of these waves makes for a beautiful, deep sound with harmonics that often harmonize with each other or can be dissonant. ellen is really great and you should go to her website!!!!!
